Indian legendary actress Rekha and superstar Shah Rukh Khan captivated audiences with their dance to the famous song “Rashk-e-Qamar” by Pakistan’s iconic qawwal, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, earning widespread praise.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, known as the “King of Qawwali,” is not only celebrated in Pakistan but also admired globally. His music has been cherished by generations of listeners. However, it wasn’t until 2017 that his qawwali “Rashk-e-Qamar” gained new life among the younger generation, thanks to a viral dance video by a girl from Dubai.
The song’s popularity soared, becoming a staple at parties. This resurgence led to a renewed interest in Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s other timeless works, resulting in remixes of his qawwalis.
In 2017, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Nusrat’s nephew, released a remake of “Rashk-e-Qamar” for the Bollywood film Baadshaho, which gained immense popularity in India.
Bollywood icons Rekha and Shah Rukh Khan later danced to this song at the Lux Golden Rose Awards. A viral video from the event shows Rekha, elegantly dressed in a Banarasi saree, gracefully dancing on stage while Shah Rukh Khan playfully tries to mimic her steps.
At the same event, Rekha was honored with the ‘Timeless Beauty’ award, which was presented to her by Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Karan Johar.
