After performing Umrah, Pakistani singer Aima Baig announced her commitment to fighting for women’s rights in Pakistan by launching the ‘Me Too’ movement.
For the past few years, Aima Baig has faced various controversies, including her breakup with actor-fiancé Shehbaz Shigri and a verbal altercation with singer-composer Sahir Ali Bagga over the song ‘Funkari’.
Recently, Aima Baig shared several stories on Instagram, revealing that she was leaving for Umrah and wouldn’t be returning to Pakistan for a long time.
In her story, Aima Baig wrote, “May Allah bless my Umrah and keep me safe. Goodbye, Pakistan, for some time. I will miss my country very much because I am leaving it for more than a few weeks or months.”
Now, the singer has shared her new intentions on Instagram, announcing that “Praying Umrah with utmost calmness has given me a lot of courage. I believe I needed it to strengthen the women of my country. Some deceitful and predatory individuals who destroy girls’ lives have been in my sights for a long time, but for various reasons, I kept silent.”
Aima Baig admitted, “I am ashamed of being silent and always will be. Not only I, but also a few other women around me, are ashamed of not doing anything about it.”
She continued, “I am probably going to start the Me Too movement soon because I have witnessed it all firsthand. We women are no joke; we are the reason these men exist in this world, and we should be respected.”
Aima Baig further wrote, “I want to tell women through this platform to raise their voices against it because many girls are suffering mentally and physically due to it.”
She concluded by saying, “I have names of some people too, but we have to work step by step with evidence and help all these beautiful working women in the meantime.”
