The 2022 blockbuster by Pakistan actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, The Legend of Maula Jatt, has stalled its release in India.
According to different Indian media reports, the film was earlier slated for an October 2 release this year in India, and was to be the first Pakistani film to be screened in the country after a period of over a decade.
The film was earlier slated for a December 2022 release in India but was shelved after vehement opposition from some radical Hindu groups and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
Recently, speculations started doing the rounds about the film’s release in India. However, MNS Cinema Wing President Amiya Khopkar strongly raised his objection and said, “We do not welcome any Pakistani films or actors in India.” Not only that, but he went further to call on the people for the entire nation to protest the release of the film.
He added, “This movie will never be allowed to release. If it does, we will protest. Our soldiers are dying on the border—why do we need Pakistani actors? Don’t we have enough talent here?”
There were reports that the movie might be released only in the Indian state of Punjab, but the latest media updates say the release has been completely stopped throughout India.
The intense storyline, great visual effects, and brilliant performances made the legend of Maula Jatt an overnight sensation among masses. It also broke many box office records and beat several Bollywood films.
The leading roles of the film were done by none other than Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, where the latter was seen as the dashing ‘Mukho,’ the companion in which Maula Jatt grew up. Even Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malik did not allow the movie to suffer much as the action-packed drama raked in over ₹ 400 crore worldwide.
Upon its release in over 500 locations across 25 countries, The Legend of Maula Jatt acquired an international record as the highest-grossing Pakistani film.
