Natasha, the woman accused of hitting and killing a father and daughter with her Land Cruiser on Karsaz Road in Karachi, was declared mentally ill by her lawyer.
In the trial held today at Karachi City Court, lawyer Amir Mansoob represented Natasha. The police did not bring Natasha to court. Instead, the investigating officer requested a 7-day physical remand for her and submitted a temporary medical report.
According to the report, Natasha was examined by Dr. Chani Lal, a psychologist at Jinnah Hospital, who found that her condition was too severe for her to be brought to court today.
During the hearing, Amir Mansoob claimed Natasha has been a psychiatric patient for the past 5 years. He argued that she had left her home and driven without permission, and her mental state made her unable to remember details. He requested bail for her.
The court responded that bail could not be granted without Natasha’s presence. The special court, acting as a magistrate, does not have the authority to grant bail. Therefore, Natasha was remanded for one day. The court ordered that she must appear in court tomorrow, or a proper medical certificate must be provided.
The hearing was adjourned with a one-day remand, and Natasha was instructed to appear in court on Wednesday.
Inspector Amir Altaf, the investigating officer, spoke to the media about the case. He confirmed that the medical report and Natasha’s admission to the hospital had been submitted to the court. He also mentioned that they had requested Natasha’s remand, which was granted for one day. Samples have been collected for lab testing, and they are waiting for results.
The investigation is also looking into whether Natasha’s driving license is from the UK or Pakistan. If allowed by the doctor, Natasha will be presented in court tomorrow. There has been no report yet regarding drug use.
