Adult film actress Riya Barde was earlier known as Banna Sheikh. She had used the names of Riya Barde and Aarohi Barde when she entered the adult film industry. Riya and her family members prepared forged documents, including an Aadhar card, voter ID, and passport, all of which were created in Amravati.
Riya also approached Raj Kundra’s production house, once mired in pornography controversies. She did a number of adult films and slowly started to gain recognition for herself.
On September 26, Riya was arrested in Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra, following an investigation which revealed that she originally hailed from Bangladesh and was staying in India with fake documents. Her parents are presently in Qatar, while the brother and sister are being searched for by the police. According to the police, the entire family attempted to gain Indian citizenship by changing their identities after gaining entry into the country.
The mother of Riya, Ruby Sheikh married a resident of Amravati in Maharashtra, Arvind Barde, and changed her name to Anjali Barde. The family acquired Indian citizenship using forged documents.
Sangram Malkar, in-charge of the probe as police sub-inspector, shared information about the case. He said, “During investigation, we found that Riya’s mother Anjali hailed from Bangladesh and was staying in India along with her two daughters including Riya, and a son illegally. Keeping her actual nationality a secret, Anjali married Amravati-based Arvind Barde based her marriage on the fact that she hailed from West Bengal. She procured an Indian passport by submitting fake birth certificates and other important fake documents of herself and the children. “
Past Cases:
Cases have been lodged against Riya Barde earlier too. Once, Mumbai Police arrested her under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act for involvement in a prostitution case.
Things started to take a different turn when Prashant Mishra, a friend of Riya, came to know about her real Bangladeshi background and informed the police. Her residential papers were then scrutinized.
