Mimi Chakraborty, a former Trinamool Congress member and actress, has disclosed that she is receiving rape threats after posting about protests on social media related to the Kolkata rape case.
According to Indian media, Chakraborty questioned on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) whether we are truly seeking justice for women. She highlighted that we are seeking justice from a society where predatory men routinely threaten women with rape.
Chakraborty stated that she had shared posts protesting the horrific assault on a female doctor in Kolkata and has since been bombarded with rape threats and obscene messages.
In her post, Chakraborty tagged the Cyber Cell Department of Kolkata Police, asking, “What upbringing and education allow this behavior?”

For context, on August 9, a 31-year-old doctor was found dead in a pool of blood at a medical college in Kolkata, West Bengal. After working for about 20 hours, she went to the college’s seminar hall to rest. The next day, her half-naked body was discovered in the hall. The post-mortem report revealed she was brutally raped by multiple men and then strangled.
Kolkata Police have arrested a police officer in connection with the case. This officer was responsible for providing medical aid to police officers and their families.
