Pakistani Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai celebrated her new identity as a ‘Swiftie’ by attending her first-ever concert on August 17. She went to see American pop star Taylor Swift perform at Wembley Stadium in London.
Malala shared several photos from the concert on social media, with a heartfelt caption about her journey to becoming a ‘Swiftie’. She attended the event with her husband, Asser Malik, and a few close friends.
In her post, Malala Yousafzai looked back fondly at her childhood, sharing a throwback photo with her best friend and recalling how music, particularly Taylor Swift’s, had a special place in her life. She wrote, “Music in Swat made my friends and me feel confident and free. I hope one day every girl can enjoy music and achieve her dreams.”
Malala Yousafzai also reminisced about a school field trip in the Swat Valley, where she and her best friend Muniba hiked to a hidden waterfall and sang their favorite song, “Love Story.” She described how music became a cherished gift during a time when it was banned.
She said, “We climbed the highest cliff we could find and sang out loud to our classmates and teachers. That was the beginning of my journey to becoming a Swiftie.”
Fans of Taylor Swift often call themselves ‘Swifties,’ and Malala expressed how magical it felt to experience her first concert with friends and see Taylor Swift live.
In conclusion, Malala reflected on the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan three years ago, and how music has always been a source of confidence and freedom for her. She hopes that one day all girls can experience that same freedom and achieve their dreams.
