100 Crore Business! Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Stree 2’ Made History

The new horror-comedy film Stree 2, starring Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor and actor Rajkummar Rao, has set a new box office record.

 Stree 2

Shraddha Kapoor, known for her captivating role as ‘Astra’ in Stree 2, has been making waves in the film industry. The movie, which released on August 15, has had a remarkable debut.

Indian media reports that Stree 2 earned over 100 crores at the Indian box office within just two days of its release. The film made INR 76.5 crore on its first day and INR 30 crore on the second day, totaling INR 106.5 crore in just 48 hours.

Film analysts predict that Stree 2 will continue to break records, with even higher earnings expected over the weekend.

In addition to Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, the film features Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee in key roles, and is directed by Amar Kaushik.

Stree 2 Story & Review

In Stree 2, Rajkummar Rao returns as Vicky, the charming small-town tailor, who learns that his greatest strengths are ‘sachai aur saralta’—truth and simplicity. While the film introduces a villain—a chauvinistic, headless monster resembling a modern-day ‘influencer’ who corrupts young men—the story’s deeper themes get lost in the complexities of the franchise. Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 relies on the appeal of the original film but lacks its unique charm, feeling more like a mass-produced sequel.

Having previously saved his town, Chanderi, from the fearsome spirit Stree, Vicky is now a lovesick drunk. He’s still pining for the mysterious girl (Shraddha Kapoor) who left town with Stree’s braid at the end of the first film. Vicky’s friends are also caught up in their own romantic struggles. Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana) is trying to make a move with his new crush, while Rudra bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) receives a cryptic letter that makes him think of his former lover, Shama.

The letter, however, is a warning about new dangers in Chanderi: young girls are being abducted by ‘Sarkata’, a towering demon with a grudge against Stree. Sarkata’s detachable, flying head is a standout visual gag, rolling around like a harmless ball of yarn before attacking with its hair-like tentacles.

The first half of Stree 2 retains some of the whimsy and humor of the original film, thanks to Niren Bhatt’s screenplay. The witty wordplay, like Bittu’s “Intimate feasting” (meant to be intermittent fasting), and callbacks to the first film will amuse fans. However, the sequel spends too much time setting up the plot and assembling the team, with characters like Jana (Abhishek Banerjee) lamenting their misfortunes.

The sharp commentary on patriarchy and gender dynamics that marked the first film is less prominent here. Sarkata specifically targets women with modern views, such as smoking and drinking, but the plan to lure him out—hosting a dance program—feels outdated. Additionally, the scene where the women of Chanderi elect Vicky as their savior lacks the personal touch seen in the first film.
